When you want a long-lasting dermal filler, Sculptra® Aesthetic is an excellent option. Sculptra® is a collagen-stimulating injectable treatment that restores volume to the face while helping the body produce more of its own youthful collagen proteins. We offer Sculptra® at Boston Medical Aesthetics for people who want gradual, subtle improvements that can last for many years.
Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that contains poly-L-lactic acid. This substance is different from hyaluronic acid, which is used in most other dermal filler injections, because it encourages your skin to produce new collagen. Collagen is an important building block of youthful skin. By helping your skin create more collagen protein, Sculptra® not only harmonizes facial volume so that you look younger, it actually helps your skin act younger.
Sculptra® works more gradually than hyaluronic acid fillers, so your results are subtle and progressive over time. Each Sculptra® treatment builds upon previous treatments for more significant improvements. After the recommended series of injections, your face will look fuller and wrinkles will appear diminished.
The results from Sculptra® may last up to 2 years. This is about twice as long as most hyaluronic acid fillers, which last about 1 year. Once Sculptra is broken down by the body, it is harmlessly absorbed.

Your Sculptra® Treatment
Your Sculptra® procedure will be performed by Elizabeth Aponté-Bellefluer, DNP, FNP-BC. Elizabeth is a board-certified nurse practitioner who has worked in the aesthetic industry for many years. She will thoroughly explain the benefits and risks of your Sculptra® treatment and answer any questions you may have. Elizabeth is known for her natural-looking results and refined injection techniques.
Your Sculptra® treatment will take only a few minutes to perform. Prior to your procedure, the treatment area will be numbed with ice. Numbing cream is also available for additional comfort. Sculptra® is then injected under the dermis using a thin needle. This process is brief and well-tolerated by most of our patients. Once complete, you are free to go about your day.
Some common side effects of Sculptra® include redness, swelling, or soreness at the injection site. Bruising is also possible, which is why it’s best to avoid blood thinners for several days before your treatment (check with your doctor before stopping any blood thinners). These side effects are minimal and usually resolve within a couple of days.
For best results, our office recommends a series of 3 injections performed over the course of 3 to 4 months. You will notice that your results appear gradually and improve with each subsequent treatment. Elizabeth will create a customized plan for your skin that includes the appropriate number and frequency of injections depending on your goals and your skin needs.
