    Non-surgical Cheek Augmentation in Boston

If you are concerned about facial aging, you are not alone. The cheeks are one of the first parts of the face to lose volume with age.

As the fat pads that rest on the cheekbones get weighed down over time due to gravity, the cheeks begin to sag downward. This also exaggerates the tear trough area or under-eye hollows. Yet, it is not only older patients that worry about low cheeks.

Not everyone is born with model-worthy cheekbones.

Many women and men lack adequate volume in this area, which can make the face appear less structured and, therefore, less attractive. As a leading Boston medical spa, Boston Medical Aesthetics is one of the top providers of non-surgical cheek enhancement. Restoring or adding volume to sagging cheeks with dermal fillers is an easy way to improve facial structure, symmetry, and proportions, or refresh your appearance in minutes, without the pain or downtime of surgery.

How Long Do Cheek Fillers Last?

For those who choose to get non-surgical cheek augmentation Boston Medical Aesthetics will provide genuine HA fillers purchased directly from the manufacturer so you can achieve long-lasting results. Dermal fillers tend to remain in the cheek area longer than other areas of the face. Cheek fillers may last up to 1-2 years, depending on the amount and type of filler that is selected.

    About Cheek Augmentation

Enhancing cheekbones is possible without surgery. Dermal cheek fillers add volume to the cheek area to restore youthful contours or enhance what you already have. As a non-surgical alternative to permanent cheek implants and facial fat grafting, it is an excellent solution for patients that want to improve their face without going under the knife.

Our Boston cheek augmentation involves placing liquid hyaluronic acid below the skin, which helps the cheeks appear fuller and more attractive. Hyaluronic acid is present in the body and skin. Injecting HA into the cheeks helps plump and firm the skin, making it ideal for cheek enhancement.

With proper injection by our board-certified advanced nurse practitioner, cheek fillers are a safe, convenient way to enhance your face. Our goal is to give our patients natural looking results. You may receive compliments on your appearance, but no one will be the wiser.

    Filler Pre-Care Instructions

The following are important treatment instructions for you to understand to help avoid unsatisfactory results and complications.

    • Injectable fillers cannot be done if you have had any dental procedures, including routine cleanings two weeks before or after your filler appointment.
    • If you are taking medications that may prolong bleeding, you may experience increased bruising at the injection site. You must avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, etc.), vitamin E, fish oil, ginger, ginkgo, green tea, garlic, ginseng, or St. John’s Wort for 10 days prior to your treatment. PLEASE INFORM US IF YOU ARE TAKING ONE OF THESE BEFORE YOU ARE INJECTED. If you are prescribed any of these medications by a different physician, you must consult with them prior to stopping any medication.
    • Arnica Forte tablets contain the herb Arnica and the pineapple-derived enzyme Bromelain, which help to minimize bruising and swelling. They can be taken one day before and up to seven days after your procedure.
    • If a laser treatment, chemical peel, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered three to seven days before or after an injectable filler treatment, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.
    • Injectable fillers should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection.
    • The safety of injectable fillers for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in patients under 18 years has not been established.
    • The safety of injectable fillers in patients with a history of excessive scarring (e.g., hypertrophic scarring and keloid formations) and pigmentation disorders have not been studied.
    • If you are prone to cold sores, please inform your provider. Antiviral medication may be recommended prior to your procedure.

    Filler Post-Care Instructions

    • It is normal to be somewhat red, tender, and swollen for several hours to days after filler injection, and bruising is always possible. It is advised that you continue to ice the area for one to three hours at 15-minute intervals, or as directed by the providers at Boston Medical Aesthetics. The lips may be tender and swollen for several days, if injected.
    • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (like Celebrex) for 24 hours to minimize bruising
    • No alcohol, no smoking, no nicotine, for 24 hours
    • No vigorous exercise for 24 hours
    • Keep the skin clean and makeup-free for 24 hours. Do not use any skincare products for 24 hours. Avoid touching the treated area and keep hair and cell phone away from your skin.
    • No dental procedures, including routine cleanings, for two weeks after filler.
    • Do not massage HA fillers or Radiesse unless specifically advised by your medical provider. Massaging these fillers can unintentionally displace the filler and cause more bruising and swelling.

    Cheek Augmentation FAQs

Cheek fillers are sold by the syringe, or “vial”. The price varies depending on how much filler is needed to attain your desired result. Some patients may need as little as 1.0 cc, which is equal to one vial, for a subtle enhancement, while others might require as much as 3-4 vials to get an expert cosmetic result.

Since each patient is unique, in-person consultation with our lead facial injector is the best way to get an accurate price for cheek fillers. Using her advanced training and 9 years of experience in aesthetic medicine, Jennifer Canesi, APN-BC will examine your face and listen to your goals to determine how much cheek filler is needed for cosmetic improvement.

There is little-to-no downtime with cheek fillers, and the results are instant. Redness, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site are the most common side effects. Such reactions are normal after injection. Most patients find these resolve within an hour or two after the procedure.

Bruising may sometimes occur, even when the product is injected correctly. Bruising is less common in the cheeks than other areas of the face, but it is possible. Makeup easily conceals minor bruises, which will resolve in 1-2 weeks. While the risk of bruising is minimal, it is best to book the appointment at least two weeks before special events.

The risk of serious side effects is minimal. Our facial injection specialist will advise you of all risks prior to treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask. We want you to feel comfortable with any cosmetic procedure you choose to undergo without feeling pressured.
