How Long Does Lip Filler Last? A Guide to Longevity & Maintenance Boston Medical Aesthetics

Lip filler has become one of the most popular aesthetic treatments for good reason—it’s quick, customizable, and delivers beautiful, confidence-boosting results. Whether you're looking for a subtle enhancement or a fuller, more defined pout, lip filler can be tailored to your unique aesthetic goals. But one of the most common questions we get at Boston Medical Aesthetics is: "How long will my lip filler last?"

    Longevity Depends on the Filler

At Boston Medical Aesthetics, we use only the highest quality, FDA-approved fillers from the Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and RHA® collections. Each product has a slightly different formulation, which affects how long the results will last.

    • Juvéderm® Ultra: Known for smooth, plump results. On average, these fillers last 6–12 months, depending on individual metabolism and lifestyle.
    • Restylane® Kysse or L: Designed for soft, natural-looking volume. Typically lasts 6–9 months, though some patients experience results up to a year.
    • RHA® Collection: RHA Redensity or RHA 2 are ideal for dynamic areas like the lips. These advanced fillers can last up to 12–15 months, with natural movement and less breakdown from facial motion.

    Factors That Affect Longevity

No two lips are the same, and how long your filler lasts depends on a few key factors:

    • Metabolism: Faster metabolisms tend to break down filler more quickly.
    • Lifestyle: Frequent exercise, sun exposure, and smoking can shorten the lifespan of filler.
    • Product Type: As noted, some formulas are designed for longer wear.
    • Volume Used: A conservative amount of filler may wear off a bit sooner, while a more full-volume treatment may have more staying power.

    Maintenance & Touch-Ups

To keep your lips looking fresh and consistent, we generally recommend a touch-up every 6 to 9 months, depending on the filler used and your personal goals. Many of our patients prefer a smaller amount during these touch-ups to maintain shape and volume.

    Tips for Longer-Lasting Results

Want to get the most from your lip filler? Here are a few tips:

    • Stay hydrated
    • Avoid excessive sun exposure
    • Use SPF on and around the lips
    • Follow post-treatment instructions carefully
    • Come in for routine evaluations—our expert injectors can assess when a touch-up is ideal
