CHEMICAL PEEL

Chemical peels are applied to the top layers of damaged, wrinkled, or blemished skin to induce peeling, thus allowing for the growth and replacement of new, healthy skin. Chemical peels result in a radiant, more resilient, and younger appearance. Our expert nurse practitioner or esthetician will assist you in selecting the optimal chemical peel for your skin.

About Chemical Peels

At Boston Medical Aesthetics, our peels improve the skin’s texture, fade hyperpigmentation, help clear acne scars and remove dead skin cells and minimize surface lines. Some of our peels can be used in conjunction with other facial treatments such as dermaplaning. For optimal results, a series of treatments may be recommended.

Chemical Peel - Boston Medical

Benefits of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a quick and easy way to substantially improve overall skin tone and skin quality. The active ingredients exfoliate dry, dead skin cells to reveal healthy new skin cells below. This results in a number of cosmetic benefits, including:

  • Smoother, softer skin

  • Enhanced skin radiance

  • Improved overall skin texture and tone

  • Fewer lines and wrinkles

  • Better skin clarity

  • Reduced discoloration (such as sun spots or age spots)

  • Boosted collagen production

  • Improvements in acne scars and acne breakouts

Although most chemical peels are done on the face, they can also be used to treat damaged skin on the chest, hands and back.

Who Can Have Chemical Peels?

Men and women who want their skin to look younger, smoother, and more radiant are good candidates for chemical peels. Boston Medical Aesthetics offers a variety of chemical peels depending on the unique characteristics of your skin. Therefore, our peels can work for almost all skin tones and types, including darker skin tones and even sensitive skin.  The nurse practitioner or esthetician will customize your peel to your individual needs.

Types of Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of chemical peels at Boston Medical Aesthetics.  Our portfolio of chemical peels includes:

SkinMedica® Illuminize Peel®

A novel approach to chemical peeling, this noninvasive SkinMedica® peel uses a new generation of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) to maximize the skin’s rejuvenating effects with very little irritation. This is an excellent peel for anyone looking for an added glow without downtime.

SkinMedica® Vitalize Peel®

The SkinMedica® Vitalize Peel® is our most popular peel at Boston Medical Aesthetics. The SkinMedica® Vitalize Peel® is a moderate peel for all skin types.  It is designed to treat mild to moderate acne, acne scarring, melasma, and sun damage. Results are predictable and noticeable after just 1 peel. The treatment can be repeated every 4 weeks. You should expect 2-3 days of peeling. This peel is excellent for teenage acne as well as for mature, sun-damaged skin.

SkinMedica® Rejuvenize Peel™

The SkinMedica® Rejuvenize Peel™ is the strongest peel in the SkinMedica® line. It is an advanced formulation of peeling agents with a built-in anti-irritant and penetration enhancer that provides controlled exfoliation. It focuses on moderate to severe photodamaged skin, melasma, fine lines, acne, and acne scars. The peel can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.  You should expect approximately 2-5 days of peeling post-treatment.

VI Peel®

The most powerful and transformative chemical peel offered at Boston Medical Aesthetics is the VI Peel®. With a synergistic blend of gentle yet powerful peeling agents, the VI Peel® has become one of today’s most popular and effective paths to a more beautiful complexion.

By capitalizing on the therapeutic effects of a proprietary peeling solution that combines alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, resorcinol and retinoic acid, a VI Peel® can – and does – radically improve the tone, texture and clarity of your skin. And with virtually no pain, it’s also one of the most comfortable chemical peel options available.

Your VI Peel® Options

VI Peel®

Minimize the signs of aging, acne and sun damage in just 1 treatment. After the very first treatment, you’ll see a visible improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, open pores, active acne, and acne scarring, as well as age spots, freckles and hyper-pigmentation, including melasma. After a series of treatments, the change in your skin’s appearance will be dramatic, thanks to the peel’s effectiveness in stimulating collagen and elastin production.

VI Peel® PURIFY

For those with acne-prone skin, the PURIFY peel offers the benefits of the original VI Peel®, but with additional ingredients to target acne – including benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, vitamin C, and kojic acid. This unique formulation eliminates bacteria and deep cleans your skin while also enhancing your skin’s natural radiance and minimizing acne scars.

VI Peel® with Precision Plus

Brown spots are no match for this powerful peel specifically formulated for pigmented skin. VI Peel® with Precision Plus is 25% stronger than the original peel, and can brighten even the most stubborn skin discoloration. Individuals with hyperpigmentation and/or sun damage can restore their skin to its natural brilliance. After treatment, your skin will appear clearer and more evenly-toned.

VI Peel® PURIFY with Precision Plus

Individuals who have a combination of acne and/or acne scars with skin discoloration can benefit from this comprehensive peel that purifies and corrects. The active ingredients of PURIFY and Precision Plus combine to give you complete, transformative results. With a series of treatments, active acne is improved while acne scars and skin discoloration are diminished.

Your Chemical Peel Treatment

All chemical peels are performed in-office by a nurse practitioner or esthetician. Prior to treatment, your skin will be cleansed and prepped to ensure that dirt, oil, and makeup are removed. A thin layer of Vaseline may then be applied to certain parts of the face – such as around the eyes or mouth – to protect the sensitive skin in these areas. Because the chemical peels used at Boston Medical Aesthetics are both effective and gentle, topical numbing cream is not typically needed, but it is available for stronger peels.

Once your skin is prepped, the chemical peel is applied evenly to the treatment area. You may feel a light tingling or stinging sensation, depending on the strength of your peel. Most of our clients are very comfortable during this process.

Your treatment time will vary depending on the type of peel you have, but your entire appointment will take 30 minutes or less. After your peel, you will need to keep your skin hydrated and protected from sun exposure. Peeling will occur over the next 2-7 days, and most people find that it can be minimized with liberal application of moisturizer. However, if you have an important event to attend, be sure to allow yourself enough recovery time when scheduling your chemical peel.
